Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Indonesia’s electrification ratio in the third quarter of 2021 reached 99.40 percent in line with the promising growth of renewable energy power plant capacity.

"In the third quarter of this year, the electrification ratio has increased by 0.3 percent to 99.40 percent. We are targeting all regions and households in Indonesia to be 100 percent electrified next year," the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources’ spokesperson Agung Pribadi said here on Friday (Nov. 19).

Data from the ministry show that only East Nusa Tenggara province has an electrification ratio below 90 percent. Even Bali already has an electrification ratio of 100 percent.

"Accelerating electricity infrastructure development is one of our priorities in line with improving service quality," he said.

In order to boost the development of electricity infrastructures, the government is targeting the addition of renewable energy power plant capacity to reach 20,923 megawatts (MW) by 2030.

"In the last five years, the addition of renewable energy power plant capacity was 1,469 MW with an average increase of four percent per year," Agung pointed out.

According to him, the additional renewable energy power plant capacity in the January-September period 2021 is 386 MW. One of the driving factors for the growth is solar and hydro power plants.

"That's why we are focusing on boosting the use of solar power plant, and    one of which is through rooftop solar panels," said Agung.

In detail, the additional 386 MW came from Poso Peaker 2nd Expansion hydro power plant of 130 MW, 12 units of micro-hydro power plant of 71.26 MW, 2 units of geothermal power plant of 55 MW, bioenergy power plant of 19.5 MW, and rooftop solar panels of 17.88 MW.

Through this growth graph, the government remains optimistic that it could achieve the target of the renewable energy mix of 23 percent in 2025.
