Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – The construction of Indonesia’s SATRIA-1 multifunction satellite and its system has so far reached 33 percent, and is planned to be completed in 2023.
"Currently, the construction process is still on the schedule," Director General of Pasifik Satelit Nusantara (PSN), Adi Rahman Adiwoso, said Wednesday.
The SATRIA-1 satellite is constructed under the Government Cooperation with Business Entity scheme.
The Pacific Satellite Nusantara Consortium that won the satellite tender, consisted of PT Pintar Nusantara Sejahtera, PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara, PT Dian Semesta Sentosa, and PT Nusantara Satelit Sejahtera.
The construction of the satellite was carried out by the French manufacturer, Thales Alenia Space.
Meanwhile, the financing structure of SATRIA-1 consists of an equity portion (22 percent) worth 114 million U.S. dollars and a loan portion (78 percent) worth 431 million U.S. dollars.
The loan comes from the BPI France syndicate and other supports, including from HSBC Continental Europe, Banco Santander and the Korea Development Bank.
According to PSN, the launch of the SATRIA-1 satellite is targeted in the second quarter of 2023 and will operate commercially no later than November 17, 2023.
In addition to satellites, PSN also builds some control stations on earth with the first constructed in Cikarang area, West Java province.
The station will have primary satellite center and network operations center.
In addition, the Indonesian government will also build a satellite control center in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan province.
Some earth stations for SATRIA-1 will also be built in Batam (Riau Islands), Pontianak (West Kalimantan), Tarakan (North Kalimantan), Kupang (East Nusa Tenggara), Manado (North Sulawesi), Ambon (Maluku), Manokwari (West Papua), as well as Timika and Jayapura (Papua).
The construction of the satellites and earth stations is carried out simultaneously so that when SATRIA-1 is in orbit, all these technologies could be used to provide internet access at 150,000 public service points in Indonesia.
The earth stations are scheduled to be completed and operational in March 2023, to make the satellite function in November 2023.
