Jakarta (Indonesia Window) - Surabaya-Gempol toll road connecting Surabaya City and Gempol area in Pasuruan Regency, East Java Province extends along 43 kilometres.
The toll road, which was inaugurated on July 26, 1986, was built with assistance from the Taiwanese Government.
Inside the Veterans Museum located in Qingjing Farm Guest House, in Nantou County, two mementos from the Indonesian Government were displayed.
The placards were from the Indonesian Directorate General of Highways of the Ministry of Public Works and the Secretary General of the Indonesian Ministry of Defense and Security, Lt. Gen. I.B. Sudjana
However, since the Lapindo Brantas Inc. hot mud disaster took place in August 2006, the road connecting Porong and Gempol was broken off about six kilometres.
As a result, the Indonesian government closed the section, reducing the length to 37 kilometres.
Taiwan has been experiencing for decades in building roads of the bestquality, even in areas with extreme geographical conditions.

The highway in the Central Mountains of Formosa Island, which has an average height above 3,000 meters above sea level with steep slopes, was built in 1961 involving 20,000 workers using simple equipment.
Now, the 200-kilometer long highway connects areas in the Taiwan Central Mountain Range, and is an access to enjoy the natural charms of Formosa Island which is rich in amazing geological features.
