Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – While global challenges present numerous opportunities for global citizens to grow and develop, the environment is also facing threats of damages and extinctions.
“Strong leadership will shape a sustainable future for future generations. This topic is important for us to study and understand to achieve the sustainability of the environment," said Dr. (H.C.) Prita Kemal Gani, founder and CEO of the Institute of Communication and Business of London School of Public Relations (LSPR), in her remarks at the Sustainability and Public Relations Summit (SPRS) 2025 here, Thursday.
SPRS 2025 is a national event that combines the strengths of academia and industry to strengthen the role of communication in sustainable development.
Under the theme ‘Reimagining Sustainability: Game-Changing Public Relations Leadership,’ the event, now in its second year, emphasized the strategic role of communication practitioners in driving sustainability transformation amidst challenges.
“Communication experts are agents of change. They shape public awareness, build narratives, and ensure sustainability in their communities," Dr. (H.C.) Prita said, emphasizing that collaboration and cooperation are strategies for shaping a sustainable future.
On the occasion, she described the experience of the LSPR Crisis Communication Management team, which worked with government officials in 27 villages in Indonesia’s Bali province when facing the threat of a Mount Agung eruption.
"When signs of a Mount Agung eruption have appeared, the government asked residents in the 27 villages surrounding the volcano to immediately move to the shelters provided. However, local residents did not immediately respond. In fact, if this had been done earlier, before the volcano erupted, much property, and even lives, could have been saved," she explained.
She further said, "here is the head of Crisis Management at LSPR Bali and the team play a role in the persuasive communication with village officials to urge people to immediately move to a safe place".
"Finally, the residents experienced very little impact from the disaster," Dr. (H.C.) Prita pointed out.
LSPR's success in crisis management has been documented in a book that will be presented in Busan, South Korea.
Furthermore, LSPR's achievements in innovative communication have also placed this higher education institution at number one in the world in the field of communication and crisis management according to the World University Ranking for Innovation (WURI).
