Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – Several national figures attended the kick-off event of the Indonesia Global Peace Convoy (IGPC), held at Balai Kartini convention and exhibition center in South Jakarta on Saturday (June 28, 2025) as a concrete step to break the
Gaza blockade.
Among prominent figures present at the kick-off event were Ustadz Bachtiar Nasir (an Islamic scholar and activist for Palestine), Buya Anwar Abbas (Vice Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council), Ustaz Felix Siauw (Islamic preacher and author), Dr. Sarbini Abdul Murad (Chairman of MER-C Presidium), Husein Gaza, Dr. Ahed Abu Al-Atta (Palestinian figure), Ustaz Fadzlan Garamatan (preacher from Papua province), Ustaz Fahmi Salim, Ustaz Isrofiel Mardlatillah, and Ustaz Alfian Tanjung.
In addition, Eva Monalisa, a member of
the Indonesian House of Representatives’ Commission VII, singer and social activist Melly Goeslaw, as well as various community members and pro-Palestinian humanitarian activists also participated in.
In his speech, Ustadz Bachtiar Nasir (UBN) emphasized that the Indonesia Global Peace Convoy is a continuation of the Indonesia Peace Convoy (IPC), which he initiated earlier. The IPC has previously been held in several cities across Indonesia, with participants organizing convoys riding motorcycles, cars, or bicycles.
“In the future, through this global peace convoy, God willing, thousands of planes from around the world are expected to head to Gaza. Allahu Akbar,” UBN declared.
According to him, the Indonesia Global Peace Convoy is not merely a symbolic action but a tangible movement by the Indonesian people to demonstrate solidarity with the sufferings in Gaza, which has long been blockaded by Zionist Israel.
UBN noted that there have been previous attempts to break the Gaza blockade, such as the Global March to Gaza and the Freedom Flotilla. However, these movements lacked widespread global participation, allowing Israel to easily halt them.
UBN has been coordinating with communities across Southeast Asia to collectively organize a peaceful convoy to break the Gaza blockade as part of global solidarity.
“We hope that this larger, mass action will overwhelm those enforcing the Gaza blockade,” he said.
UBN invited Indonesians to join the peaceful convoy to Gaza, appointing Husein Gaza as the Field Coordinator for the movement.
UBN said that the registration process for convoy participants would be simple and open to all. “We will open registration with basic information such as name, WhatsApp number, email, gender, age, and city of origin,” he told the media.
He added that after the initial registration, a further screening process will be conducted. “Later, we will conduct additional screening and hold a joint meeting to determine the next steps,” he said.
(UBN) emphasized that the Indonesia Global Peace Convoy is a continuation of the Indonesia Peace Convoy (IPC), which he initiated earlier. The IPC has previously been held in several cities across Indonesia, with participants organizing convoys using motorcycles, cars, or bicycles.
“In the future, through this global peace convoy, God willing, thousands of planes from around the world will head to Gaza. Allahu Akbar,” UBN declared.
UBN emphasized that the process is open and dynamic, adapting to the evolving situation. “If the target is met, for example, one million voices or participants, we can quickly propose and execute this plan,” he said, noting that decisions would be adjusted based on the latest developments due to the dynamic conditions on the ground.
He concluded his call by urging Indonesians not to miss this opportunity, to prepare themselves, invite family and friends to join, and ensure their passports are ready. The departure schedule will be decided together in the near future.
“Please join and unite with our leaders and brothers in this movement. It’s time for us to come together, breaking through all barriers and obstacles,” he said.
The target is to gather one million participants.
