Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto has expressed appreciation and warm welcome to his Peru’s counterpart
Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra during a tête-à-tête meeting in the Merdeka Palace office, Jakarta, on Monday, August 11, 2025.
The meeting was one of the key agenda items in President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra’s state visit, the Indonesian Cabinet Secretariat reported on its website, as quoted by Indonesia Window on Tuesday.
"On August 12th, Indonesia and Peru celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations. It is a great honor for Your Excellency to come on this historic day. For Indonesia, Peru is a friendly country, an important country in the Latin American region, and we want to continue and improve the bilateral relationship between Peru and Indonesia," President Prabowo said.
The Indonesian Head of State emphasized that despite the considerable geographical distance between the two countries, Indonesia and Peru share similarities as Pacific nations committed to improving the welfare of their people and sharing common interests.
On the same occasion, President Prabowo also welcomed efforts to enhance the Indonesia-Peru Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.
"I very much welcome how we can enhance the Indonesia-Peru Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. We also hope for Peru's support in our efforts to become a member of the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development)," the President said.
The President also highlighted the potential for cooperation in the fisheries sector, given that Peru is known as one of the countries with a developed fishing industry.
"What's interesting is Peru's experience and the highly advanced nature of Peruvian companies in the fisheries sector. I believe this presents enormous potential for collaboration. In the coming days, I will be meeting with several Peruvian companies," he remarked.
The tête-à-tête meeting provided an initial opportunity for the two leaders to exchange views on bilateral issues, before continuing with bilateral meetings with their respective delegations.
Through this historic momentum, the tête-à-tête meeting is expected to foster even closer strategic cooperation in the future.
