Jakarta (Indonesia Window) - Since January 1, 2020 the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah of Saudi Arabia has been implementing comprehensive insurance for umrah pilgrims coming from overseas during their visit in the kingdom, general supervisor of the media center at the ministry Ayman Arfaj said in a statement.
The insurance coverage is linked to the visitors’ visas, and the relevant policy will become effective upon arrival of umrah pilgrims in the Kingdom, Saudi Gazette reported as quoted by Indonesia Window here on Monday.
As of January 1, 2020, a total of 8,452 policies were issued to umrah pilgrims by the Company for Cooperative Insurance (Tawuniya), he noted.
On December 11, 2019, Tawuniya signed an agreement with the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah to provide insurance services to umrah and hajj pilgrims for four years.
The umrah pilgrims can avail this insurance policy to visit government or private hospitals during their visit by showing passport number.
Among the benefits of the comprehensive insurance is that the umrah pilgrims can be compensated in case their flights are delayed or canceled, in cases of death and in transporting bodies, or in accidents and disasters.
Meanwhile, official statistics on the weekly umrah index shown that 2,570,809 umrah visas were issued since the beginning of the umrah season for this year on Muharram 1 until Jumad Al-Awwal 7, 1441 Hijr.
Meanwhile, 2,241,140 umrah pilgrims has arrived in the kingdom, Al-Arfaj noted.
The weekly umrah index also showed that 1,795,850 umrah pilgrims have departed from the kingdom after performing worships in the Holy Land.
The umrah pilgrims entered the kingdom via various entry points. Over 2,120,677 umrah pilgrims arrived via airports, 116,537 via land crossing points and 3,928 via seaports.
The top ten arriving pilgrims were of the following nationalities in descending order, namely, Pakistan 532,634, Indonesia 477,554, India 280,388, Malaysia 120,714, Egypt 120,609, Turkey 88,706, Algeria 85,605, Bangladesh 83,397, UAE 51,952, and Palestine 39,547.
