The diplomatic relations between Indonesia and China are in line with the Asta Cita (Principal Goals) of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.
Jakarta (Indonesia Window) – This year marks the 75th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between
Indonesia and China, established on April 13, 1950.
The diplomatic relations between the two countries has been growing and even stronger since then. Until April 25, 2005, Indonesia and China have agreed to a Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership, which was upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in October 2013.
"Over the past 75 years, I am confident that Indonesia's cooperation with China will continue to be maintained and strengthened," said
the Indonesian Ambassador to the People's Republic of China, Djauhari Oratmangun, in his keynote address at the Sustainability and Public Relations Summit (SPRS) 2025 here, Thursday.
He further said that of the 14 strategic partnerships established between Indonesia and countries around the world, only five are categorized as comprehensive.
"The diplomatic relations between Indonesia and China are also in line with the Asta Cita (Principal Goals) of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, who made a state visit to China in early November of last year, shortly after his inauguration," the Indonesian Ambassador noted.
In his presentation, he highlighted several indicators of the continuing growth of Indonesia-China diplomatic relations.
"Bilateral trade in 2024 reached a total value of 147.78 billion US dollars, with Indonesian exports reaching 71.09 billion dollars, while imports from China reached 76.69 billion dollars," Ambassador Djauhari pointed out.
Data also shows that the value of Chinese investment in Indonesia in 2024 was recorded at 8.1 billion US dollars, a 9.4 percent increase compared to that in 2023. This figure places China in the third place for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Indonesia.
Within the synergy framework of the Global Maritime Fulcrum and the Belt and Road Initiative, Indonesia has completed the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway (KCJB) project.
Other development projects include six industrial areas: Karawang Industrial Park (in West Java province), Tangerang Industrial Park (in Banten province), Kuala Tanjung Industrial Park (in North Sumatra province), Morowali Industrial Park (in Central Sulawesi province), Car Industrial Park, and Green Industry in North Kalimantan province.
The Indonesian Ambassador commended China's rapid progress in artificial intelligence technology, which has been applied in the energy sector, precision agriculture, manufacturing, logistics, ecosystem conservation, and climate prediction, to achieve sustainability.
He stated that in the future, there are at least five potential sectors for bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and China, namely those on health, green energy and electricity, the digital economy, downstream industry, and the development of the new capital city of Indonesia.
The 2025 SPRS, under the theme ‘Reimagining Sustainability: Game-Changing Public Relations Leadership,’ is expected to be a catalyst in creating a communications ecosystem that encourages the birth of impactful programs from Public Relations (PR) leaders and corporations to address global needs and challenges.
